The selection of the winners is based on well developed evaluation criteria in each category, verification, discussion and assessment of the received nominations. The Jury sits twice in September before the Right to Know Day Awards Ceremony.

Every year, a Jury selects the winners in each of the categories for the Right to Know Day Awards. The Jury consists of members of Access to Information Programme team, as well as renowned journalists, public activists, representatives of NGOs, who have contributed to the promotion of the freedom of information standards.
