Each year since 2003 on the Right to Know Day, Access to Information Programme organizes a ceremony to present freedom of information awards in several categories.

Since 2010, in view of the December 2008 amendments to the APIA which introduced an obligation for online publication of information, an award for The Best Web Site With Regard to the APIA would not be presented. The criteria for the web site category are incorporated in the criteria for the category Institution, Which Has Most Efficiently Organized the Provision of Public Information.

AIP presents four Golden Key Awards to:

Citizen, who has most actively used the APIA

Non-governmental organization, which has most actively exersized its access to information right

Best journalist story related to the access to information right

Institution, which has most efficiently organized the provision of public information

AIP also presents Anti-awards to dishonor bad practices of not respecting the right of access to information. We give:

"Padlock" anti-award for the most non-transparent institution

"Tied Key" anti-award for the most absurd and funniest administrative decision related to an access to information request
